Manoeuvres In The Dark (OMD): Dazzle Ships |
|

|
Released on the 03/03/2008
Following on from OMD’s hugely successful Architecture
and Morality, Dazzle Ships met with a
degree of critical and commercial hostility. Two singles
were released, "Genetic Engineering" and "Telegraph",
with some chart success, but the majority of the album
focused on cold war and eastern block themes, and was
patchworked from musique sound collages and shortwave
radio recordings. This 2008 remastered cd features bonus
tracks and is released to coincide with the 25th anniversary
of the album.

| The
Gutter Twins (Mark Lanegan / Greg Dulli): Saturnalia |
|
|

|
Released on 03/03/2008
Nicknamed "the Satanic Everly Brothers,"
Mark Lanegan and Greg Dulli have produced a unique gothic
bluesy sound on their debut album, Saturnalia.
Two of alt- rock’s foremost front men, Lanegan
was singer with The Screaming Trees, one of the most
successful bans to emerge from the Seattle scene alongside
Nirvana, Mud Honey and the like, while Dulli was the
guiding force behind the revered soul-rock of The Afghan
Whigs. Reborn as The Gutter Twins, Lanegan and Dulli
are revered for their dark, messianic sound and embracing
of such bleakly seductive themes as decadence, excess,
betrayal and mortality.

| Panic
At The Disco: Pretty. Odd |
|

|
Released on 24/03/2008
Panic release their second studio album while still
working to escape the moniker of an emo band (they are
signed to a record label owned by Pete Wentz of Fall
Out Boy, a band considered by many to be emo.) This
time around, the band are keen to emphasise a new, more
mature sound than the digitalised spin that featured
so heavily on their first outing, 2006’s A
Fever You Can't Sweat Out. "It’s influenced
by the music our parents listened to: the Beach Boys,
the Kinks, the Beatles", says band member, Ryan
Ross. "Our new songs are more like classic rock
than modern rock. We got older and started listening
to different music – and this seems like the natural
thing to do right now."

| Dream
Theatre: Greatest Hit (... & 21 Other Pretty Cool
Songs) (2CD) |
|

|
Released on 31/03/2008
In celebration of the band’s 20-year anniversary,
Dream Theater returns with a best-of collection. Covering
the years 1991-2005, the two-disc set contains rare
single edits, B-sides and remixes. Referring to Dream
Theater’s first and only major radio hit, “Pull
Me Under,” the compilation’s tongue-in-cheek
title is a testament not only to the band’s sense
of humour but also highlights the acclaimed New York-based
quintet’s ability to make music and cultivate
a legion of fans on its own terms, without help from
radio or MTV.
